The project with the Municipality of Milan

The collaboration for the Online Escape Room for the Municipality of Milan is a perfect example of how gamification can serve history and education. Within the "Milan is Memory" program and in conjunction with the exhibition "Resistance through their Eyes," Enigmap has developed a custom project to engage new generations with the themes of European and Italian Resistance. Through careful teamwork with institutions, we transformed biographies and historical documents into an interactive experience that captivates middle and high school students, demonstrating the great educational value of digital and outdoor play.

Co-design with researchers from the Casa della Memoria

Developing a game based on real historical events requires precision and great respect for sources. For this reason, the creation of the experience stemmed from a close co-design between the Enigmap team and the Casa della Memoria. The institution provided its researchers to select the most suitable documents, biographies of partisans, and historical facts. Starting from this valuable material, our authors worked from scratch to build a smooth narrative and a series of logical riddles. This approach ensures that every clue solved by players corresponds to accurate historical information, merging fun with learning.

Online escape room: immersive indoor game

The heart of the school project is a digital adventure titled The Rebel Secrets of Milan. We utilized the format of the online escape room to allow middle and high school students to play comfortably indoors, using logic and deduction directly from their computers or tablets. The story follows Davide, a 14-year-old boy who, while tidying up the attic, finds an old mysterious diary. Players must explore the pages of the diary to discover to whom it belonged, deciphering codes that reveal the lives of the Resistance protagonists.

Treasure hunt: outdoor activity in the park

The educational initiative was not limited to the classroom but transformed into a dynamic outdoor event. We adapted the narrative structure into a real physical treasure hunt within the Biblioteca degli Alberi di Milano (BAM). In this version, the girls and boys experienced the story firsthand, running between stops in the park and solving team games based on the actions of partisans. Transferring digital content into a physical environment increased physical engagement and collaboration among students.
