The project with the Municipality of Milan

The collaboration for the Escape room online for the Municipality of Milan is a perfect example of how gamification can enhance history and education. As part of the "Milan is Memory" program and in conjunction with the exhibition "Resistance through their Eyes," Enigmap has developed a tailored project to engage younger generations with the themes of European and Italian Resistance. Through a collaborative effort with local institutions, we transformed biographies and historical documents into an interactive experience that captivates middle and high school students, showcasing the educational value of digital and outdoor play.

Co-designing with researchers from the Casa della Memoria

Creating a game based on real historical events requires precision and great respect for sources. For this reason, the development of the experience stemmed from a close co-design between the Enigmap team and the Casa della Memoria. The institution provided its researchers to select the most suitable documents, biographies of partisans, and historical facts. Using this valuable material, our authors crafted a seamless narrative and a series of logical puzzles from scratch. This approach ensures that every clue solved by players corresponds to accurate historical information, merging fun with learning.

Escape room online: the immersive indoor game

At the heart of the project for schools is a digital adventure titled The Rebel Secrets of Milan. We utilized the format of an online escape room to allow middle and high school students to play comfortably indoors, using logic and deduction directly from their computers or tablets. The story follows Davide, a 14-year-old boy who, while cleaning the attic, discovers an old mysterious diary. Players must explore the pages of the diary to uncover its owner, deciphering codes that reveal the lives of Resistance heroes. Treasure hunt: outdoor activity in the park

The educational initiative extended beyond the classroom, transforming into a dynamic outdoor event. We adapted the narrative structure into a real-life treasure hunt at the Biblioteca degli Alberi in Milan (BAM). In this version, students experienced the story firsthand, racing through the park and solving team-based challenges inspired by the actions of partisans. Translating digital content into a physical environment enhanced student engagement and collaboration.
